Russia’s World Cup hero Igor Akinfeev retires from international football
Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev has announced his retirement from international football. The 32-year-old Igor Akinfeev played for CSKA Moscow club.
Akinfeev earned 112 caps for his country since his debut in 2004 as an 18-year-old. Igor Akinfeev lead the Russian football team as captain at the World Cup 2018.
Akinfeev played a major role in helping his team reach the quarterfinals, where they lost 4-3 to Croatia in a penalty shootout.
