James P. Allison Tasuku Honjo win Nobel Prize 2018 in Medicine for discovery of a cancer therapy

Gita Gopinath appointed International Monetary Fund IMF Chief Economist

Professor at Harvard University, Gita Gopinath has been appointed chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She replaces outgoing chief economist Maury Obstfeld, who will retire in December.

Gita Gopinath is the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University.
Gita is one of the world’s outstanding economists, with impeccable academic credentials, a proven track record of intellectual leadership, and extensive international experience,” IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said.

Gita Gopinath is US citizen, she was born and grew up in India. She received her Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University in 2001 after earning a B.A. from the University of Delhi and M.A. degrees from both the Delhi School of Economics and University of Washington....Read More

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and India sign $150 Million Loan to Improve Regional Connectivity

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $150 Million Loan to finance continued improvements to road connectivity and efficiency of the International Trade Corridor in West Bengal and North-Eastern Region of India.

This is the second tranche loan agreement for the USD 500 million South Asia Sub regional Economic Cooperation Road Connectivity Investment Programme.

The programme aims to expand about 500 kilometres roads in north Bengal and north-eastern states to enable efficient and safe transport within India and regionally.

The new loan will help up gradation of key national and state highways in Manipur and construct an important international bridge for crucial last-mile connectivity between in-country trunk road network and neighboring countries.
 
The project's second tranche will upgrade about 66 km of national highways in Manipur, construct about 1.5 km of an international bridge between India and Nepal, and provide additional financing for the construction of about 103 km of a state highway in Manipur.
The project will reduce transaction costs along the targeted cross-border corridors substantially, creating economies of scale and commercial prosperity.......Read More

India's Archer Deepika Kumari defeat Germany’s Lisa Unruh in a shoot-off to wins the bronze medal in the Archery World Cup Finals 2018 at Samsun, Germany.

Deepika and Unruh both shot 9 but Indian won bronze because her arrow was closer to the centre.

Korea’s Lee Eun Gyeong clinched the gold medal after defeating Turkey’s Yasemin Anagoz 6-4.
