India to Chair Kimberley Process from 1st January 2019

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) Plenary 2018, was held in Brussels, Belgium, from 12th-16th November 2018. EU handed over the Chairmanship of KPCS to India from 1st January, 2019.


Commerce Secretary, Dr. Anup Wadhawan, said that India as a KP Chair, from 01st January 2019, will be committed to make the KPCS a stronger process in terms of inclusiveness, strengthened administration and implementation, efficient in terms of delivery of what it promises, more transparent and empathetic towards the living standards of people who are dependent on the production, trade and manufacture of diamonds.

India United Kingdom exercise Konkan 18 begins in Goa

The naval exercise Konkan 18 between India’ Navy and the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom will be conducted from November 28 to December 6, 2018 off Goa.


The Bilateral KONKAN exercise provides a platform for the two Navies to periodically exercise at sea and in harbour, so as to build interoperability and share best practices.

The KONKAN series of exercises commenced in 2004, and since then has grown in scale.

KONKAN-2018 will be conducted from 28 Nov to 06 Dec 2018 off Goa with units participating from both navies.

The Royal Navy will be represented by HMS Dragon, a Type 45 Class Destroyer equipped with an integral Wildcat helicopter.

The Indian Navy will be represented by INS Kolkata, the first ship of latest Kolkata class destroyers, equipped with integral Seaking and an IN submarine. In addition, IN maritime patrol aircraft, Dornier will also participate in the exercise........Read More


Himachal Pradesh became first State to launch single emergency number ‘112’

Himachal Pradesh became the first state to launch a pan-India single emergency number '112' where all kinds of immediate help can be sought an Emergency Response Centre (ERC) in the state.


One Emergency Response Centre (ERC) has been established in Shimla along with 12 district command centres (DCCs), covering the entire state.

The ERC has been integrated with police (100), fire (101), health (108) and women (1090) helpline numbers to provide emergency services through the emergency number '112'.

The service is part of the '112 India' mobile app that is integrated with a panic button for smartphones and Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) state websites.

Additionally, a ‘SHOUT’ feature has been introduced in ‘112 India’ mobile app, To ensure safety of women to seek immediate assistance.........Read More

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 2nd International Ambedkar Conclave  in New Delhi as part of the commemoration of Constitution Day. (November 30, 2018)
