India ranks 115 in World Bank's Human Capital Index, central govt rejects reports

The World Bank ranked India 115th among 157 countries in its first-ever Human Capital Index (HCI). (October 11, 2018)


The central government rejected the findings of the World Bank's Human Capital Index (HCI) and will continue to undertake its path breaking programme for human capital development aiming to rapidly transforming quality and ease of life for all its children.

The index took into account parameters like child mortality, health and education.

India’s neighbours Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka were better placed at 106th, 102nd and 74th position, respectively.

China ranked 46, Indonesia (87), Malaysia (55). Singapore was ranked number one in the world followed by Japan, Hong Kong and Finland.

The HCI has been constructed for 157 countries. It claims to seek to measure the amount of human capital that a child born today can expect on attaining the age of 18.

The HCI index values are contended to convey the productivity of the next generation of workers, compared to a benchmark of complete standard education and full health.......Read More


Central University of Jammu, ISRO sign MoU to set up Space Applications Center

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) for setting up a Space Applications Center, named Satish Dhawan Center for Space Science. (October 11, 2018)

Another MoU was signed between CUJ and the Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIR-CSIO).

To create awareness about space research and to motivate young minds to take up research related to space, astronomy, geology, atmospheric sciences and related fields, a two day workshop was also inaugurated at the CUJ campus. 

The Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Science at CUJ will have facilities for Geospatial Data analysis that will help in sustainable use of natural resources and planning land-use pattern.

It will have ground-based observations for Atmospheric Studies, research lab for astrophysics, Atmospheric Sensing and Glacier studies Lab for better use of large quantity of water stored in the form of seasonal snow, ice and glaciers in the rivers of North India.

Apart from this, a Disaster Management Center will also be set up here that would be able to take up research in the area of different disasters like flood, Landslides, forest fires, drought and climate change.........Read More
